DataSync

A file sharing service that allows working on shared data with your collaborators worldwide.

DataSync is a file hosting service similar to Dropbox but your data is kept securely on University of Edinburgh servers.

You get 20 GB of space in DataSync and you can also link DataSync with your personal or research group storage on DataStore.

DataSync

Features:

  • You can access and edit your data from different computers and devices and be sure that the changes are synchronised for all of them.
  • You can use DataSync via the web and also download apps to make it easy to access from mobile devices.
  • You can securely share your active data with collaborators locally and internationally so you can work together; all they need is an email address.
  • DataSync is fully backed-up. All the information will still be there if there’s a problem with your personal computer or laptop and if a file is accidentally deleted you have some time to find and restore it.
  • DataSync is hosted entirely within the University of Edinburgh. No data is stored on third-party servers

Security:

  • The data is stored in the UK by Information Services at the University of Edinburgh
  • Uses the HTTPS protocol when connecting to the web interface
  • Files sent or received over the network are encrypted using TLS (transport layer security)
  • Files stored on the server are NOT encrypted
  • Your data is only visible to other people if you choose to share it. None of your data is shared by default.
